Why are cats scared of cucumbers?
Post by Fred Webber » Sat Aug 12, 2017 2:20 pm
Here is a funny video of cats and cucumbers. Obviously, it seems that we have seen cats afraid of cucumbers. I have never heard that cats have inherited any instinct making them scared of vegetables : ) Why are cats scared of cucumbers?
Cats are scared of cucumbers, because cucumbers look like snakes

Probably, it was just a rhetorical question, but one could think that cats are scared of cucumbers, because the cucumbers share some visual similarities with few kinds of snakes. Cats vs cucumbers is a pretty much hot controversial science topic.

Deeply, in particular, the better question is: "is there any genetic memory?" Do cats have any visual memories inherited from their ancestors, or is it just a dump instinct?
We already know that mice are able to pass the memories through many generations. And we know that a rat can recognize traps met by ancestors.
If you answer "yes", then I would like to know: Do you think that the same can be applied to humans as well? Because mammals have inherited a lot of common genetic features. Actually, if cats and humans are enough genetically relative for medical trials (tests of new pharmaceutics) then it might be enough to prove this one as well.
Again, why is a cat jumping when see a vegetable?

Humans are closer relatives of mice than cats

We can check the mammal family tree from 2007 and see that mice are closer relatives of humans than cats.Fred Webber wrote:Is there any genetic memory?

If it's caused by a genetic memory in both cases (of cats and rodents) and we assume that these common genes are probably inherited from the same one ancestor of cats and mice (didn't evolve independently), then it should be applied to humans too. If a human is more relative with a mouse than cats with mice, then yes.
At the moment, you can count on cats, mice and even something else:

Honestly, I don't like any healthy vegetables. That's not just the cats.
