Is Orange Pi compatible with Raspberry Pi?

Post by Fred Webber » Fri May 26, 2017 11:32 pm

Is there any real cross-platform compatibility in the Pi family of mini computers? I think more about hardware than software. Is Orange Pi compatible with Raspberry Pi? Or Banana Pi with the Raspberry Pi?

Orange Pi is compatible with Raspberry Pi

Combinable Raspberry Pi alternatives such as Orange Pi try to stay as closely compatible as possible, use rather the same hardware and open source software such as Raspbian (You can install
it on Orange Pi as well). You can have some issue with chargers and cases for some of the models like Pi Zero, because it's smaller than Raspberry PI 3, Orange Pi Pc and other older versions. However, I don't see any reason why not use chargers for Iphone and Android phones giving exactly the same "juice". For example, Raspberry Pi 3 Model B can be powered from Iphone chargers having 2.5A and 5V output (what's the same like Raspberry Pi chargers). Chargers made for phones have similar quality, but lower price.
